5 Fab Women Pick Their Empowering Tunes For #IWD2016

Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation. Today, Tuesday 8th March, is the global celebration of women. Yes, it’s the inaugural celebration of women aka International Women’s Day. To celebrate, here, at Nation of Billions, we’ve asked some of our favourite females to select their #IWD anthems.

The 8th March has been marked as International Women’s Day as a global celebration of women, since 1913, a day to triumph the dope achievements of women. Even though we know that celebrating the awesomeness of women shouldn’t be reduced, or even needed to be highlighted on one day (it should be a given thing, right?), and regardless of whether you fucks with #IWD, we’ve decided to highlight some of our personal inspirational women and their empowering tunes. Sort of like your personal empowering playlist for the day, brought to you from some of the most talented singers, rappers and DJ’s in the UK.

RAY BLK 

If you’ve not heard about Miss Ray BLK, then I suggest you updates yourselves here. South London’s Ray BLK, had an explosive 2015 with her debut EP ‘Havisham’. The visuals for her track ’50/50‘ left us fixated, so of course we had to find out her female empowerment anthem:

JORJA SMITH

18 year old Jorja Smith has a bright future ahead of her. Blending soul and R&B in her debut track ‘Blue Lights’, she has amassed over half a million Soundcloud plays on it alone. A quiet storm has been brewing around Jorja since ‘Blue Lights’ and her recent performance at Balham’s The Bedford only secured that.

JAMZ SUPERNOVA

BBC Radio 1xtra’s Jamz Supernova is certainly a trendsetter. Her brand ‘Future Bounce’ began as a radio show and now is a full 360 music platform, curating club nights, mixes and championing all the future, fresh & alternative sounds. Last year Jamz debuted at Glastonbury, it’s safe to say the bounce will only get bigger with Jamz Supernova in 2016.

WOLFIE

Singer-songwriter Wolfie emits these dope hazy vibes and glowing energy that just makes her an artist you want to listen to. In 2015, Wolfie dropped ‘I Be Ghost’ which instantly was relatable to women across the UK. Her smouldering vocals and dulcet tones so no sign of failing. Working with the likes of Show N Prove, ADP and Levi Lennox, Wolfie’s hypnotic powerhouse continues.

MS BANKS

With an authoritative flow and versatile vibes, Ms Banks has not only been consistent but could match up to male rappers with ease. Last month Ms Banks released her seven track ‘New Chapter’ EP that literally had something for everyone on. She has the unforgiving bossiness that I like and I know will take her very far indeed.
