5 for Friday: Future, Loski, Headie One x Drake & More

The clubs might still be closed but the bangers just keep rolling in from the likes of Future who delivers a brand new music video. In the heat of July, Headie One & Drake tie the knot over a collaboration which finds two domineering figures display their greatness on wax. Scroll down and run through the latest sounds of the week.

Headie One x Drake – Only You Freestyle

Headie One and Drake capitalise on the absurdities of 2020 with a colossal collaboration on which the Canadian rapper takes a third dig on drill. Produced by M1onthebeat. ‘Only You Freestyle’ unifies two giants in their own lane and sparks a polarising conversation in the process.

The duo take us for a ride on the ghastly production adorned with curling vocals and sparse hi-hats in which Drake name drops Maya Jama and cranks out raps in Arabic. Drake talks his sh*t over dilated 808s and declares his mob ties. On the other hand Headie One’s contribution proves he is the undisputed king as shown  through his eloquent delivery and effortless wordplay.

Future – Posted With Demons

‘Posted With Demons’ is a bouncy affair slotted on Future’s last project ‘High Off Life’. Future gets back to the work and supplies the internet with a visual for the title track.

Future makes light work of trap music on ‘Posted With Demons’ in which the rapper runs with formidable form over a potent combination of classical strings and flutes. Never one to shy away from the slick talk, Future shifts between elastic rhymes and a mouthful of lines chronicling him pimping out a preacher’s daughter. The dark imagery that mark the visual would make your local conspiracy froth at the mouth at the possibility a ghastly exchange. Nevertheless The Wizrd credits his longevity in the rap to his innovative sound and declares he’s here for the long run.

Veda Black – Serious

Sad Girl Club is the latest project from Veda Black on which she fosters self-sufficiency with each song being written and produced by herself. ‘Serious’ marks an important moment for the singer who discovers who true self in the process.

The singer sets the tone over a soulful blend of instrumentation on which she opens up about her current mind state. With scrambling thoughts that find her taking refuge in her bed and recharging her social-battery as a form of self-care. ‘Serious’ features mellow bass guitar grooves and perky keys for the most part, but as she begins to skilfully scat over the score it shifts into a more upbeat affair somewhat of a sonic delight for you to indulge in.

Smino, JID & Kenny Beats – Baguetti

Smino enlists Dreamville’s sharpest weapon J.I.D and rising producer Kenny Beats on the antiquated trap outfit ‘Baguetti’.

J.I.D opens up the cut with his rap-sung lines in which he lightly raps over the odd production propped up with a stern bounce. While Smino decorated delivery finds his elongated rhymes and off-skelter delivery sounding off on folks who spend way too much time talking rather than doing. While J.I.D raps run through a clockwork of percussion and soft-tone melodies, he sets himself apart from the competition.

Loski – On Me feat. MizorMac

Loski and MizorMac commence operation rebuild with a brand new collaborative track entitled ‘On Me’.

Loski and MizorMac gives us a show-stopping performance as they go back-to-back. Two-tone keys merged with explosive 808s and head-splitting snares find Loski as raw as ever on the dynamic. “When the dot dot slaps ‘dum’ you hear the same sound like the end of Eastenders, “MizorMac raps. He matches the dark and eerie vibration with demented lyricism. Form is temporary, but class is permanent on this Harlem Spartans link up.
