The project has enabled BBC Radio 1Xtra to team up with BBC Learning for a programme of events that will cater to 7000 young people in Leeds and Bradford. Topics like Women in music and making money from music will be discussed alongside spoken word, music mentoring and radio making workshops. DJ Semtex will be holding a mixing masterclass as part of the programme
1Xtra DJs Trevor Nelson, A. Dot, Yasmin Evans, DJ Target, Charlie Sloth, Ace and Radio 1 Live Lounge host and former 1Xtra presenter Clara Amfo will also be taking part.
Sinead Rocks, head of BBC Learning said “We’re really excited by the opportunity to team up with 1Xtra to provide first-class, hands-on experiences focused on digital creativity. We can’t wait to see if the next Mark Zuckerberg or Steve Jobs lives in Bradford and if we can help inspire them along the way!”
The names of some of the acts performing this year at 1Xtra Live, as well as ticket registration details, will be announced in September.
Its a great opportunity for budding musicians and creatives to get some invaluable insight into the workings of the music industry and the current shape of our ‘Creative Economy’.
