While #StormEmma unleashed her fury across the UK, thankfully one good thing came after the storm, as Kali Uchis shone her sunny exterior across a sold-out Electric for her headline show in London. There’s something almost begrudgingly British about going through hell and high water after a storm, or in the case of Londoners, having to trudge across the city with cancelled trains and delays. But nothing was about to stop the show last night, London may have dropped to -3 degrees outside, but the interior was certainly heating up.
While it’s been 6 years since her debut mixtape ‘Drunken Babble’, Kali has captured the attention of a string of rappers from Snoop to Tyler; managed to nail herself a Grammy nomination along the way; and earned herself a first Billboard 100 hit with a collaboration on Daniel Caesar’s ‘Get You’.
Relocating to LA to record her upcoming debut album due later this spring, the Columbian/American singer has been dropping a succession of singles featuring the likes of Tyler, The Creator and Jorja Smith. As Kali powered through her set list at the Electric London last night, with support from Cosmo Pyke and an appearance from Jorja Smith to deafening screams, there’s no question Uchis is finally primed and ready to give us her long-awaited debut.
