BadBadNotGood Clown Around With Snoop Dogg & Kaytranada

Here’s one we didn’t see coming! But when it comes to BADBADNOTGOOD it shouldn’t surprise us anymore that these guys have all the hip hop credentials to keep throwing us loopy curveballs. Tyler, the creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Kaytranada and Ghostface Killah are all names counted as friends and collaborators by the BadBadNotGood, and now Snoop Dogg has added himself into the mix, dropping a laid back remix of the bands original track  ‘Lavender’ featured originally on their album ‘IV’.

Directed by Jesse Wellens and James DeFina, the ‘Lavender (Nightfall Remix)’ featuring Kaytranada & Snoop Dogg, dropped on Sunday night with an arresting video (watch above) featuring a clowned up Michael Rapaport and Snoop. Taking a satirical look at America, it’s pretty much how we’ve been seeing it all played out day to day.

Channeling that ‘Gin & Juice’ flow back from the 90’s, Snoop gets into something much deeper on his verse, with references to police brutality and politics. The video opens with a family of clowns living in a country run by an orange-faced clown named Ronald Klump. “Resident evil, it’s all on camera and they still don’t believe you / Clownin’ around, don’t come your clown ass ’round here nigga you gon’ get down”

“I love what they do, shit feels so real. And when I heard the instrumental on their album I had to do it”, Snoop said about hearing the original instrumental version in the studio when his engineer played it to him. The Toronto quartet hadn’t seen it coming either and only found out about the track after Snoop previewed it on his Instagram. In an interview with Billboard, Snoop talked more about the concept of the video, “The whole world is clownin’ around, and [Jesse’s] concept is so right on point with the art direction and the reality, because if you really look at some of these motherf–kers, they are clowns.”

Taking inspiration from his original ‘Doggystyle’ artwork, Snoop also enlisted the original album artwork creator Joe Cool, for the single cover for ‘Lavender’ remix. The ‘Lavender’ is released via Innovative Leisure, BADBADNOTGOOD’s label and is also available on vinyl.
