Borderless Festival Reveals Acts For The 2017 Edition

As we glide through a day ‘n age where murky forces hack our collective bonds, it’s been inspiring to see new forward-thinking music platforms popping up to guide us against the grain. Among those events is Battersea Arts Centre own Borderless festival, which will soon hold its second and most ambitious edition. With a selection of performances ranging from edgy electronic languages to more community-rooted rhythms – such as afrobeat, reggae and black music -, the festival’s diversity definitely brings us together through the discovery of worldwide music.

With a cross section of underground acts hailing from the UK and abroad, Borderless’ first feature performances are scheduled for May. Among these headliners is the soul-touching R&B of Fatima, whose debut album ‘Yellow Memories’ scored an Album of The Year win in Gilles Peterson’s 2015 Worldwide Awards. Fatima’s enchanting voice will be joined by the warm rhythms of Eglo Live Band on May 11th.

On May 16th, producer Kate Simko will spin her Chicago house of classical and jazzy references in a joint performance with the London Electronic Orchestra, so expect some inevitable dancefloor attraction. And on the matter of groovy compositions, Lewisham-native Jodie Abacus feel-good blend of funk and electronic will definitely uplift the crowds spirits on May 4th.

As in last year’s debut event, Borderless’ latest lineup projects a wide set of genres, a clear sign of the importance of integrating a diversity of audiences in a collective global rhythmic experience. The Melt Yourself Down’s punk with North African influences will lend a different chord to the festival on May 12th. Still, many more acts are yet to be revealed.

Borderless festival will be held, once more, at Battersea Arts Centre’s iconic Council Chamber, an old town hall turned venue that hosted legendary gigs from the likes of The Jam and Fleetwood Mac. And with yet many more names to be revealed in due time, the festival’s tickets are now on sale on Borderless’ official website.
