Don Cheadle’s ‘Miles Ahead’ Hits The UK Screens In April
Screening at SXSW this week, Don Cheadle’s stars in Miles Ahead alongside Ewan McGregor, Emayatzy Corinealdi, already garnering critical acclaim for his debut directorial film.
Working from a script he co-wrote with Steven Baigelman, Don Cheadle’s directorial debut is not a conventional bio-pic but rather a unique, no-holds barred portrait of a singular artist in crisis. In the midst of a dazzling and prolific career at the forefront of modern jazz innovation, Miles Davis (Cheadle) virtually disappears from public view for a period of five years in the late 1970s. Alone and holed up in his home, he is beset by chronic pain from a deteriorating hip, his musical voice stifled and numbed by drugs and pain medications, his mind haunted by unsettling ghosts from the past.
The story centres around the Rolling Stones reporter Dave Braden (Ewan McGregor) who pursues Miles Davis (Don Cheadle) for an exclusive interview but what he gets instead is a wild and dangerous ride-along with a recording artist living at his edge, rife with shootouts, car-chases, and a tale of lost love to the singer Frances (Emayatzy Corinealdi).
Inspired by events in Miles Davis’s life, Academy Award Nominee Don Cheadle brings his vision, both in-front-of and behind-the-camera in MILES AHEAD, making his directorial debut. A wildly entertaining,
Miles Ahead opens in UK cinemas from April 22nd.
For SxSW attendees, there will be a special “Miles Ahead” panel led by Cheadle, with NPR’s Felix Contreras onboard as Moderator, discussing the making of the film, along with the music, with intimate behind-the-scenes anecdotes provided by Erin Davis (son of Miles) and Vince Wilburn, Jr. (nephew of Miles).
Additional speakers include Grammy Award-winning artist Robert Glasper, who scored the film’s soundtrack and produced the forthcoming Miles Davis remix project; Oscar-winning supervising sound editor, re-recording mixer and sound designer Skip Lievsay; and Grammy Award-winning artist Keyon Harrold, a sought out trumpeter/producer/arranger/songwriter who performs with GRAMMY-winning group D’Angelo and The Vanguard, and is featured as the trumpet sound of Don Cheadle playing Miles Davis.
This session will take place on Thursday, March 17 at 12:30pm in ACC Room 18ABC. As part of the Music in Film track, the session will be open to Music, Film, Platinum and Gold badges, as well as Showcasing Artist wristbands.
