Dr Dre Announces Compton: A Soundtrack
Its all about the ‘Countdown to Compton’, as we get ready to be transported back to one of the most exhilarating moments in Hip-Hop history.
Whether you lived it while it was happening in the 90’s or whether you inherited it, there’s no way you couldn’t have been touched by the force that was and still is NWA. The release of the NWA biopic has generations of Hip-Hop fans waiting for the opening of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ – the story about the rise and rise of the ‘most dangerous group in America’.
The internet was ablaze with rumours this week after Ice-Cube dropped the news in an interview that a new album from Dre was coming. This weekend those rumours became fact when Dr Dre made the announcement on his Beats 1 show The Pharmacy.
Dr Dre has officially announced a soundtrack inspired by the film: Compton, will be released exclusively on iTunes on the 7th of August. Once principle photography began on the movie, Dre was feeling so inspired, that he hit the studio and started recording the album.
Talking about ‘Detox’ the long awaited album, Dre simply said “the reason why Detox didn’t come out is because I didn’t like it, it wasn’t good. The record it just wasn’t good, I’m gonna keep all the way 1000 with you, seriously I worked my ass off on it and I didn’t think I did a good enough job on it and I couldn’t do it to my fans, I couldn’t do it to myself.”
‘Compton’ will be the first album from Dre after a 16 years hiatus.

Straight Outta Compton the movie opens in the U.K on the 28th of August.
