Drake Get’s Ready To Give Us ‘More Life’

Last night Drake brought in his 30th birthday in true Drizzy style, with a special mix for Episode 32 of the OVO Sound Radio show. Premiering not only new songs from Popcaan, Roy Woods and P Reign, what came after was unexpected yet rumoured. Anyone and everyone listening in to OVO Sound Radio knew this had to be the moment for Drake to drop that new heat, as he opened the show with the words – “Its that time now. This is the real set”.

Of course nothing from Drake now can be expected, an innovator in his own right, Drake’s latest offering ‘More Life’ is as he says going to be a “playlist project”, filled with original music from him and his OVO compadres. Calling ‘More Life’ – The Next Chapter – “I’m off mixtapes, I wanna do a playlist. I wanna give you a collection of songs that will be the soundtrack to your life.”

But before the playlist, came the mix starting off with ‘Two Birds One Stone,’ and Drake came in with heat; the bars we missed from ‘5am In Dallas’. Addressing Kid Cudi’s recent tweets directed at both Drake and Ye, “My tweets apply to who they apply. Ye, Drake, whoever. These N@&*+ don’t give a fuck about me. And they aint fuckin with me.” Despite the fact that Cudi checked himself into a rehab facility earlier this month for depression, was this the right time for Drake to address his issues? Referencing Kid Cudi’s 2009 album ‘Man on the Moon’ on the new track, he spits, “You were the man on the moon / Now you just go through your phases/ Life of the angry and famous.” It’s safe to say that Drake saying “diss me you’ll never hear a reply for it” has definitely gone out the window since his “beef” with Meek Mill last year. As fans we live for this side of Drake, and he’s set off the internet again, throwing shots which Twitter is already claiming are pointed at Pusha T on the same song.

Both Drake and Pusha have exchanged disses previously on the past, but now he’s hitting out ‘Two Birds One Stone’ – “But really it’s you with all the drug dealer stories that’s gotta stop though. You made a couple chops and now you think you Chapo. If you ask me though you ain’t lining in the trunk with kilo’s. You bagging weed with all your N@&*+ watching Pacino.”

Ending with a few words referencing his earlier beef with Meek Mill last year, Drake reminds anyone coming for him, about the outcome; “It seems like no one wants to stay in my good graces. I’m like a real estate agent, putting you N@&*+ in your places. Look what happens soon as you N@&*+ talk to me crazy”.  Touching on the very sensitive subject of Lil Wayne and Birdman, he came through showing support for his boss— “Free C5. How the f*#%¥ we got the boss waiting.”

The second cut is a remix of South London’s own Santan Dave’s ‘Wanna Know’. This by far has to be the biggest surprise of the night for UK fans. We’re already very aware that Drake has a love affair with the underground scene in the U.K and Grime, and in his mix he also played AJ Tracey and Santan Dave’s ‘Thiago Silva’ as well as shouting out, the Landlord Giggs, AJ Tracey, BBK Skepta off course and Santan Dave.

Then, taking it back to Atlanta, Drake teamed up with the man who he says has he juice right now—21 Savage – for ‘Sneakin’. Mumble rap may be seen as a staple in hip-hop culture so hate it or love it, it’s here to stay and for the Atlanta rapper who just turned 24 this is a major co-sign. ‘Sneakin’ is a highlight, with Drake attractively segueing through his first few minutes into his thirties with Dad jokes. PS. We’re still awaiting Dennis’ album.

The last song ‘Fake Love’ will be echoed in clubs all over and delivered the ultimate crossover track, a mix between ‘Hotline Bling’ and ‘Pick Up The Phone’, it’s basically another anthem to close out 2016 “I can tell that love is fake, I don’t trust a word you say…how you wanna clique up after your mistakes?”

Drake had written a letter to his supporters after the death of Alton Sterling who was killed earlier in the year by police, ending it with ‘More Life’

You can expect ‘More Life’ in December, watch out for the full episode to be streamed on OVOSound soon and in the meantime check out some of the selections on OVOSOUNDRADIO Soundcloud
