Enter R&B’s Triple Threat, Elijah Blake
Elijah Blake may be a relative newcomer to the scene, dropping his debut album ‘Shadows & Diamonds’ just a few months back, but he’s already got a Grammy under his belt and has scored the mentorship of the legendary No. I.D.
Previous EP offerings ‘Drift’ and ‘Bijoux 22’ set the tone for Blake’s brand of sincere storytelling and vocal talent, but it was ‘Shadows & Diamonds’ that saw Blake step into his own. Under the guidance of No. I.D.’s sleek executive production, Blake shot for a higher ambition and the Dej Loaf assisted ‘I Just Wanna..’ consequently became a hit over the summer.
The rising R&B star is putting forward a unique proposition with his triple threat status; as a Grammy Award-winning songwriter he has written with the likes of Nas, Rihanna, Rick Ross, Common and gets a special shout-out for producing Usher’s finest moment of recent times, ‘Climax’. Add to that his vocal range that is rapidly getting recognition thanks to THAT falsetto and some slick moves, and you’ve got yourself something to watch out for.
New cut ‘Everyday’ is a fine example of all the above, a homage to staying loyal (“f*ck with the ones that f*uck with you”) complete with some tasty rumbling bass, stabbing synths and echoing vocals that combine to put forth Blake’s most rap influenced offering yet.
The video sees Blake in New York’s Harlem, passing through the streets with his crew before breaking into some powerful synchronised choreography that’s all too rare in 2015’s R&B landscape. Check it below:
