Greatness Only: Naomi Campbell & Skepta Add Fuel to the New GQ Cover

Iconic. The one word everyone can agree on when describing the upcoming @BritishGQ cover, featuring Skepta and Naomi Campbell. The images only started flooding the timeline late last night, with British GQ yet to post the official cover. Earlier in the day the publication had been hinting of ‘something special’ coming in their next issue, posting only one up close preview image on their own website.

The picture has spoken a thousand words of affirmation. It’s an intimate cover. Both icons are topless. Naomi staring right at us, her legendary smirk and mesmerising gaze. And like us, Skepta’s eyes are fixed on Naomi. She’s donning nothing but a pair MAINS LONDON underwear, Skepta’s brand we covered during it’s launch at Selfridges last summer.

This cover, as unexpected as it was, is testament to the way in which things are changing. Inclusion and diversity in fashion and culture is becoming normalised. But at the same time, nothing about black excellence is “normal”. Ideas of front page beauty and coolness are shifting. Naomi and Skepta are proving just that. If that’s not enough, the cover was also styled by the Ivorian maverick stylist Jenke Ahmed Tailly. Greatness Only.

There isn’t much GQ hasn’t achieved, but they reach a new level of wins with this cover. Editor Dylan Jones again proves print isn’t dead. There still is so much to speak about through written word, and so much more to look at.

#Updated: British GQ have unveiled the official cover featuring Naomi Campbell and Skepta talking race, sex, love and black power in the April 2018 issue out Thursday 8 March.
