Gucci Mane Returns With ‘Mr Davis’

The last year (and a bit!) has seen a somewhat revolution in Atlanta’s own Gucci Mane. Since his release from a three year stint in jail, his stock has risen tenfold and he has become one of the most talked about names in rap.

Gucci’s moniker as the “godfather of trap” is no surprise, with his first release coming back in 2005 and dropping over 130 mixtapes/albums collectively over his ten plus years in music. He helped shape and define the genre we now know as “trap” and has worked with everyone in the game, from Mariah Carey and TI to Migos and Usher.

His latest run has been a little different though, with his albums ‘Mr Woptober’ and ‘The Return of East Atlanta Santa’ pulling in top end reviews from fans and critics alike. Gucci seemed more focused and determined with his latest batch of music and his feature on Rae Sremmurd’s viral sensation ‘Black Beetles’ which Billboard describedas “the unexpected commercial high point for Gucci“, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for 7 non-consecutive weeks between November 2016 and January 2017. When news broke that he would be releasing his 11th studio album in October, the anticipation was certainly high and Gucci sure looked to deliver on the hype.

Totaling 17 tracks, ‘Mr Davis’ is Gucci on top form, embracing his storied past and celebrating his current success. His turns on tracks like ‘Back On’ and ‘Money Piling’ is a throwback to his early trap roots and show just why we should put some respeck on his name. The highlights of the projects are the tracks which feature other current stars, ‘Jumped Out The Whip’ feat. A$AP Rocky and ‘Lil Story’ feat. ScHoolboy Q being personal favourites. Gucci is also not afraid to switch up his style, blending in R&B for slow burners like ‘Tone It Down’ which features Chris Brown and his previously released banger with Nicki Minaj, ‘Make Love’. Production is handled by the likes of Metro Boomin, Southside, Nav, Zaytoven, A1, Young Berg, Detail and more.

Next up, Gucci is set to tie the knot with fiancée Keyshia Ka’oir in a lavish wedding ceremony, which will air during BET’s “The Mane Event” special on Oct. 17 [the original date for Mr Davis’ release – Gucci wasn’t about gatecrashing this one!]
