Hudson Mohawke Is All System Go
Channeling some deep detroit techno and inspired by none other then the original don Jeff Mills, Hudson Mowhawke didn’t just go all out with ‘System’ he went back to the rave days and elevated it into CG.
The HudMo x Dominic Flannigan x Nic Hamilton collaboration has resulted in a video which is featured as the second in a series of commissions by Warp Records for Channel 4’s Random Acts.
Just watch the video and the frenetic energy of the track is just amplified with the visuals, floating over the Manhattan skyline, Dominic Flanagan explains the concept – “A favourite from Lantern, with ‘System’ Hud Mo was inspired by some tear-out Jeff Mills offset with those minimalist classical arpeggios – and when considering an associated film I thought of classic rave visuals and cg stock art of the late 90s where the grid of the city would be superimposed with circuit boards and processors. Here we updated it for 2015, commissioning our own 4K helicopter shoot over Manhattan which Nic Hamilton treated, placing in a CG environment that evokes Philip Glass ’1000 Airplanes On The Roof’.”
‘System’ is featured on the Hudson Mohawke album ‘Lantern’ which also features guest appearances from Miguel, Jhene Aiko amongst others. With a list of production credits that spirals into the titans of music – Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne, Bjork, Antony & The Jonsons, R. Kelly, Big Sean, Pusha T, Pharrell, Mark Ronson, Miguel, John Legend, Future, Rick Ross – HudMo has every reason to touch the sky.
