If You Can’t Buy It You Bite It – Instagram Does A Snapchat

Yeah we all know about Kanye’s latest rant about the Apple Tidal beef but best believe when it comes to Silicon Valley no one plays nice – ever. No rules and no patents will stop a mega maniac tech giant to go and get what they want – your users, your content, your audience – your money!

Facebook, oh sorry I meant Insta, yeah we know you just did one on Snapchat because well that’s what you do right – if you can’t buy it you bite it! So for all y’all *me included, who just haven’t been able to get your head into Snapchat or if you’ve got bigger followings on Instagram – well it all just got a whole lot more instant. Instagram CEO Kevin System doesn’t technically say they stole anything they just put a spin on it: “This isn’t about who invented something. This is about a format, and how you take it to a network and put your own spin on it.

So putting a spin on the story may be that PR principle of the Silicon Valley elite but we all know what we’re looking at and while Facebook didn’t have much luck buying out Snapchat for a few billions, they’ve just gone and taken their other purchased powerhouse, Instagram and done what they do so regularly – spin the fuck out of it.

Of course the Instagram darlings are at it already giving it a test drive as more and more stories have started appearing. Vic Mensa went in on a video snap – oops I mean insta story saying “Damn Instagram just stole Snapchat fuck, I guess use Instagram more!”

Kehlani wrote ‘What the Fuck Instagram’ while testing it in the car in amazement saying “This is real!”

But others like Stormzy used their first Instagram stories to say fuck this and instead plug their snapchats  “Nah Insta you lot are too cheeky for this one, this is shameless” – let’s see how long Stormzy’s gonna be able to resist holding out.

As the official announcement introduced the new feature, Instagram launched their new stories on their blog and instantly in the app; Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.

It’s pretty much a cleaner interface than Snapchat, with better filters and drawing tools but still short on lenses and stickers. Just like Snapchat the photos and videos disappear in 24 hours and don’t appear in the profile or feed but unlike Snapchat no Likes or public comments appear on stories – so just swipe through it.

“You’ll see stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed — from your best friends to your favorite popular accounts. When there’s something new to see, their profile photo will have a colorful ring around it. To view someone’s story, just tap on their profile photo. It’s easy to view stories at your own pace: tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story.”

If you haven’t already got in on it – take it for a test-drive and see if you’re really ready to resist the lure of Insta Stories – it’s about to get quite busy up in there.
