Jorja Smith Comes of Age with ‘Teenage Fantasy’

Celebrating her coming of age as she turned 20 this weekend, Jorja Smith is bringing it on with a little Parisan flavour in her new video for ‘Teenage Fantasy’.

Filmed in Paris and directed by Rashid Babiker, the visual is an ode to love and friendship, with a lyrical backdrop that grasps the reality behind those teenage fantasies of romance and lasting love. This ones not about a boy, as Jorja is content to frolic with a friend in a hotel room and hit the streets of Paris. The video plays on those younger days when freedom reigns before we all inevitably grow up and get that much more cynical and wiser about our choices. Jorja recalls a conversation about contemplating the future of a teenage love affair; “I was told by my mother, if i look into the future, do i really see this boy, that i think i’ve fallen for?”
The B&W visual takes another step forward in charting the growth of this promising singer/songwriting who’s already established a shining start to the year with ‘Beautiful Little Fools’. Playing on insecurities whether as little women or young women in love, there’s a theme thats reflected across both singles, and may just be pointing to the direction of Jorja’s next project.
After teaming up with Kali Uchis on the upbeat ‘Tyrant’, there’s now slowing down and the interest around Jorja just keeps gathering pace, as the still unsigned artist goes global, after Drake put her map with features on ‘More Life’.
Till the next chapter of this diary, catch Jorja Smith if you can at her sold-out headline show at Brixton Electric on July 20th.
