Kara Marni Will Have You Feeling ‘Golden’
Not just a girl but only just a women, at 19 Kara Marni is basking in that ‘Golden’ rush you get when you’re feeling all glowed up from that loving feeling. The type of feeling you get when you’re in the “honeymoon period of a relationship, when you can see no wrong in a person.”
‘Golden’ arrives as a glowing debut from the rising singer-songwriter, who’s been gathering up quite a reputation for her own covers of classic R&B cuts. For Kara it’s been soul diva’s like Minnie Riperton, Anita Baker and Roberta Flack who’ve counted most as her earliest musical inspirations but in ‘Golden’ she takes a page out of the 80’s R&B playbook. An uplifting song, with a synth groove, light with a confident air, Kara’s bright and bold mood is reflected in her gorgeous soaring vocals.
While these days it kinda feels like we’re more attuned to listening to records that’d have us drowning into the darker depths of relationship drama – it’s nice to recall the ‘Golden’ moments when it feels so right that it isn’t wrong.
