Kendrick Lamar Meets Obama To ‘Pay It Forward’
Kendrick Lamar has released a new video ‘Pay It Forward’ as a public service announcement, directed by Dave Myers and ‘the little homies’ in a follow up to last years ‘Hard Work‘ video.
President Obama revealed ‘How Much A Dollar Cost’ as his favourite track of 2015, but that wasn’t where he left things, meeting with Kendrick Lamar in the White House, they discussed his initiative for the National Mentorship program which led to the video above.
The video is running in support of MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership in the U.S and Kendrick narrates why mentorship was important in his path to success and why he’ll pay it forward;
“As a kid having a mentor was vital to me, always been there when it counted, allowed me to make some of the most important decisions when growing up. So it’s only right that I mentor a younger person with the same wisdom that was given to me, if it helps the next kid become a better person in life, I will forever be aware of my influence and pay it forward. I look where I’m at today and realise that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life.”
“I sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views, topics concerning the inner cities, the problems, the solutions and further more embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives. Sometimes I reflect and think back of where would I be, if I didn’t have the presence of an older acquaintance telling me whats right and whats wrong, telling me the pro’s and con’s of the very move I was about to make, telling me the best way to plan success for my future”
