Kendrick & The Grammy’s Celebrate Compton In A Short Film
Unlike the Oscars, The Grammy awards have something to boast about when it comes to Compton. This year they may have escaped scrutiny for once, with the well deserved recognition for Kendrick Lamar leading with 11 Grammy nominations for ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’.
Launching the pre-promotion campaign with a ‘Witness Greatness’ tag, the Grammy’s have gone into full swing with a billboard blitz in big U.S cities for the awards show on the 15th of February. Today witnesses the reveal of a short film celebrating ‘Compton’ the city that inspired Kendrick’s album, not to be confused by Dre’s ‘Compton’ album inspired by ‘Straight Outta Compton’ – which of course is also inspired by the city of Compton.
The lyrics to ‘Alright’ provide the narrative, as fans and Compton residents proudly recite and rap the lyrics to Kendrick’s anthem of protest, with Kendrick joining the chant ‘We Gon Be Alright’ at the end of the short film.
