New Venue PrintWorks Announces ‘London Issue 001 – Series’
Fabric is set to reopen early 2017. Undoubtedly a victory snatched from the jaws of defeat but with an increasingly authoritarian approach to penalising a venue for the actions of its patrons, people are understandably questioning whether or not the new rules will ultimately damage its global appeal.
Luckily, South London’s newest venue – the highly anticipated Printworks – has released the details of its opening programme. Due to run at a limited 2,500 capacity from February to April, the Printworks first series is a statement of intent with a range of leading figures from the musical spectrum expected to arrive in its, industrial Press Hall. Daphni, Nina Kraviz, Seth Troxler, Floating Points, Luciano, Adam Beyer make up some of the names for the dynamic first series.
A former printing press for both the Metro and the Evening Standard the reincarnated Printworks will run events from midday to 10pm. In true continental style, music lovers will be able to tap into no less than 10 straight hours of activity both on and off the dancefloor. Those who have already resolved to go will be delighted by the promises of ‘a bar for every occasion, street food stands and vast chill out areas’. It’s the kind of thing lazy, hot summers are made of, but with this crash test scheduled to take place early 2017 there’s no time to daydream.
February 4th plays host to the ‘Launch Extravaganza’ the first chance ravers will get to try the soundproofed main room where much of the original print machinery has been left in place. Sonically, the Printworks has been furnished with L’Acoustic and SB28 loudspeakers, as well as a custom designed mechanical lighting truss and over 100 lasers and spotlights all stylised for the ones and twos.
The Printworks aim to get off on the right foot and are doing all they can to make sure the venue can be used again, an application for temporary use of the space is under consideration by Southwark council and in the meantime organisers have dedicated stewards, as seen in Amsterdam, to help you find the route home you need. SE16 locals will also be offered 50 free balloted tickets as part sweetner part temptation for what promises to be a resounding fightback to the assault on London club life.

Not content with simply being a one dimensional rave space the Printworks organisers are also working on a vibrant selection of cultural events with plans for food festivals, exhibitions, orchestral performances and even immersive theatre.
