Skepta drops a Halloween Gift with ‘Vicious’ EP

While the month of October has been a crazy month for UK music with new releases from everyone from Avelino to Prynce MINI, Giggs to Skrapz, the month looks to end on a high with a brand new surprise EP from Skepta, in his words, a “Halloween treat”.

Halloween for Skepta has always been a holiday for giving. In previous years, he s dropped Halloween mixes via OVO Sound Radio [featuring a crazy ‘Lock Arf’ remix] and last year, hooked up with RiFF RAFF for haunting track ‘Back From The Dead‘. This year looks to be no different as with the release of Vicious, a new 6 track project, he compiles previously released tracks with brand new bangers.

Hits such as ‘No Security‘ and ‘Worst’ alongside Section Boyz (both released last Hallow’s eve) are combined with new tracks, ‘Still’ and link ups with Lil B on ‘Sit Down’ and A$AP Rocky on ‘Ghost Ride’. Meanwhile, production is handled by the likes of Mystro & Skepta himself, who’s apparently responsible for four out of the six tracks. The soundscape moves from trill to trap and everything in between effortlessly and its testament to Skepta’s structuring of the EP as a whole. The project is a treat for those who have been itching for a Skepta fix since he dropped his Mercury Prize winning album ‘Konnichiwa’.

Skepta has not been completely quiet this month, featuring on a number of UK artists’ projects, lending his lyrics to tracks from Young Spray (‘Amen’), Krept & Konan (‘On My Life’) and C Biz (‘Might As Well’). A solo project from the Boy Better Know frontman is always welcome though and certainly builds anticipation for a follow up album, due in mid 2018.
