SoundCloud Is Inviting DJ’s and Producers To Make Money

“I’m very much the Soundcloud generation, maybe possibly not so much now. I think that’s how I found some of the cool remixes that I then put into my sets, or some of the producers that I might not have come across before. I played their records on the radio just through that and getting lost.” – Jamz Supernova

Soundcloud pretty much distinguished itself from the get go as a platform for music creators and curators, and although it’s gone through a series of changes to keep up with the rising competition in streaming, they’re getting back to the roots of what made them work in the first place. “DJs and producers are an integral part of the SoundCloud ecosystem, sharing thousands of new tracks on the platform every day”

Announcing the expansion of their SoundCloud Premier program, it’s now official “DJs and producers who create sets, remixes and other forms of creative works will now be invited to join our SoundCloud Premier program, and earn revenue for the tracks they share on SoundCloud.”

What that means is that all that work DJ’s and producers are putting in is also being counted and will start to pay off not just for the creators of music but also the curators of music.

Launched in 2014, SoundCloud’s Premier program was set up to start generating revenue for the platform, through subscription services and advertising on the platform. Not unlike YouTube, but very much unlike Facebook, once the doors were open to make money from advertising, SoundCloud started giving a share of that back to it’s content creators. Unfortunately for the DJ’s and producers that also led to takedowns of their mixes and remixes, when copyright infringements became an issue. Now SoundCloud are back to incentivising DJ’s and producers to get back to what they do well on Soundcloud and be a part of the revenue program.

“While the Premier program remains invite-only for the moment, we are increasing the number of people invited every day. You can let us know you’re interested in participating by signing up here.”
