Sunfall from Sunshine to Sunset Till After Dark
British festivals are definitely heading into overdrive and with a new round hitting the yearly calendar year on year it’s a wonder that fans can’t get enough.
Despite live music venues in London being hit with shutdowns over the urban development overdrive, it’s all been a bit depressing contemplating the future of live music, and guessing where the scene is heading after Brexit is all a bit redundant. So whatever the future holds, one future that’s likely to rise is Sunfall. In it’s first year on the festival circuit, this entirely South London affair gave us less of the turn up and more of a groove on.
Sold out and set up over 4 stages in Brockwell Park for the daytime schedule and heading into 8 music venues after sunset spread between, Elephant & Castle, Peckham, Brixton and Vauxhall – this was one for the true muzo’s.
After only a spattering of sunshine, before the typical British weather came through, nothing was pulling a negative vibe on this day. With a line up that went from Kamasi Washington’s deep jazz collective to Goldie dropping some hard beats, switching to Moodymann’s happy funk set, to finishing the day schedule with a roaring set from Jamie XX – these was just the main highlights of the day.
For the party hard crew this was only the beginning, as the night sessions kicked in with South London clubs hosting Jamie XX & friends, Benji B’s Deviation, Goldie’s Metalheadz, Dimensions Festival, Phonox presenting a from Glasgow to Detroit, Studio 89, Mister Saturday Night x Rhythm Section and A Taste of Afrobeat Vibration and Young Turks hosted 2nd set from Kamasi Washington.
