Take The Long Awaited ‘Trip’ With Jhene Aiko

Without a word of a hint, Jhené Aiko surprised fans with the release of her new album ‘TRIP’, a journey that charts her loves and losses over the past ten years, inspired by her own poetic writing.

Jhené revealed the purpose of her new project in a personal statement, “In sharing this… I hope to inspire others to share their own mistakes, imperfections and fears,” Jhene continues, “I believe in doing so we can understand each other better and realize we are more alike than different..I hope to inspire others to share their grief and pain because I believe suffering can be alleviated when we understand we are not going through any of it alone.”

‘TRIP’ arrived with a film of the same name, directed and written by Jhené, with the help from her friend, screenwriter Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip).

The 22 tracks spanning ‘TRIP’ were recorded in L.A over a period of four years, with guest appearances by Big Sean, Swae Lee, Kurupt, Brandy and more. The follow up to her ‘Souled Out’ album, it’s a reflective project which plays out over 90 minutes, taking listeners on a ‘TRIP’ though Jhene’s deeply personal highs and lows. Recounting the tragic loss of her brother Miyagi, from brain cancer in 2012, to her divorce and her own struggles with substance abuse, Jhene seeks healing through poetry and music.
