Tee Grizzley Rises To His Moment

When Jay-Z co-signs you as having the “best song out”, instantly people are going to pay attention.

Which is exactly what happened to 23-year-old rapper Tee Grizzley from Detroit Michigan. For the past few months he’s been causing a serious stir in the rap game following the release of his debut mixtape ‘My Moment’, a collaboration with the hottest rapper out Lil’ Yachty on their track ‘From The D to the A’ and not forgetting the hit that has the whole world excited, ‘First Day Out’.

Following a 3 year prison stretch, Tee Grizzley got straight back to work penning the track and shooting a video for it soon after, which built up so much hype that he was soon snapped up by the record label 300 Ent., home of rappers such as Young Thug and Migo’s. In an interview with Billboard he said, “It was my first day out of prison, and I felt like rap was all I had. I knew I had to give it my all and tell my story. I think my genre is more “reality rap”; I talk about my life and the struggles that I’ve been through”.

The way in which Tee Grizzley paints the struggle he’s been through in ‘First Day Out’, combined with the quality of his lyricism and speed in which it was released has had the whole genre excited for his future. The style of the track is also reminiscent of Meek Mill’s huge ‘Dreams And Nightmares Intro’, in the way in which it starts slow and introspective but builds into a crescendo of hard-hitting lyrical dynamite. So it’s no surprise that he’s also recently been seen cooking up some new music with the South Philly native. Check out a clip of Meek and Tee in the studio.

It might only be his first year out but it seems like the sky is the limit for Detroit’s, Tee Grizzley.
