The Cinematic Orchestra Resurface ‘To Believe’ With Moses Sumney

When it comes to the core root of the British underground music scene, to understand the scope, breadth and sheer versatility of it, you have to feel it’s need to find a way forward, an urge birthed from a genre-non-specific mentality.

Not in pursuit of any new genre wave, what The Cinematic Orchestra’s breakthrough at the tail end of the 90’s did do was breed an endless stream of ‘chillout’ compilations riding off the back of the post-rave necessity to chill the fuck out and come down easy. Yet silently and quite blissfully, The Cinematic Orchestra kept out of any commercial fanfare and rose to prominence with what later became coined as their nu-jazz sound.

With a following spanning the past 17 years, the welcome return of The Cinematic Orchestra with their first project in 9 years is a moment to simply relish and something you can only believe when you listen ‘To Believe’. Setting the tone for their forthcoming album with a beautifully scored cinematic soundscape (of course), the new single is based on the idea that “the prerequisite of everything in life is belief”.

Cinematic Orchestra’s Jason Swinscoe and longtime friend and collaborator Dom Smith, partnered up on the sublime production to create ‘To Believe’ featuring LA based vocalist Moses Sumner. Opening with an acoustic guitar which leads into graceful strings, the tone is nuanced with the haunting stirrings of Moses singing over the slowly building arrangement.

With a new yet untitled album on the way, expected to feature Beck, Sufjan Stevens, Solange and James Blake, expect something in the music you can’t believe.

Moses Sumney will join The Cinematic Orchestra on their London dates as they embark on a set of live dates across the UK alongside Thundercat, Submotion Orchestra, Mr Scruff and more.
