‘The Get Down’ Gets Another Trailer Before Netflix Premiere

Lets take a trip back, back to 1977, back to the birth of Hip Hop in the Bronx.

It’s about to get all nostalgic up in here and with all the right reasons to celebrate the inception of this culture we call Hip Hop, birthed 40 years ago in the Bronx. Debuting a brand new trailer for the forthcoming Netflix series, The Get Down, the latest clip gives a taster of life in the Bronx in the 70’s with featured cast Jaden Smith, Giancarlo Esposito, as well as Shameik Moore, Justice Smith and Herizen Guardiola who starred in last years breakout hit ‘Dope’, Southpaw and Paper Towns.

Baz Luhrmann (Great Gatsby, Molin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet) is taking his latest project not to the cinema screens but straight to Netflix with the first 6 episodes of The Get Down, which premieres worldwide on the 12th of August.  In partnership with Netflix and Sony Pictures Television, the musical series, is executive produced by Nas and features consultants from the defining era of Hip Hop from Grandmaster Flash as associate producer, to Crash and Dave as Graffiti Consultants.

The latest trailer also features a snippet of a new Nas track, due to be featured on the forthcoming soundtrack to accompany the tv series.

Focusing on the broken down, beaten up, violent, cash strapped, consigned to grow up in the rubble, crew of South Bronx teenagers, the series tells the story of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco. The Get Down will journey from the glitter ball rage of Disco to its transition into the new art form of Hip Hop that changed the city and 40 years later has become the most influential culture in the world.
