There’s No Rest For The Wicked So Go ‘Sleep Hungry’ On Bonzai’s EP
It’s going off, as Bonzai unleashes her second EP ‘Sleepy Hungry’ today, launching with her first single ‘No Rest’ and a debut headline show on the 30th of March.
Released via Mura Masa’s label Anchor Point Records and considered to be “a ferocious talent” by the man himself, the 9 track EP features production from John Calvert, Royce Wood Junior and of course Mura Masa. This is one project where we’ll let the ‘Punk R&B’ moniker slide, cos gotta say it’s got that thrill of the rave scene embedded through the energy of the EP, so make no mistake ‘Sleepy Hungry’ literally gives no rest to the wicked. The 19-year-old, Bonzai zones in on her vocal skills and sound, heads into the ups and downs of a night out, written over 3 months in London and LA.
Mura Masa add’s his take on her sound “It’s tough for the US guys to really get the nuances of UK electronic music and it’s equally uncomfortable when UK artists try to compete with Beyoncé or Kendrick. With Bonzai being dual nationality American/Irish and having grown up with DnB as much as RnB, it really feels like she can bring genres together in a natural way. She never has a bad session as she’s got so many tools to choose from as a writer and she’s fearless”
Bonzai will be appearing at her sold out debut headline show at Electrowerkz on 30th March having previously supported Mura Masa on tour and as the support on his next tour dates through April.
