There’s Something About Majid Jordan
There’s not been alot known about Majid Jordan but somehow it feels like you’ve known them forever, ever since hitting the world radar off of Drakes hit ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’, Majid Jordan may have stayed elusive to the point of almost evasive but somehow it’s all worked in their favour.
The Toronto production duo signed to Drake’s label OVO, have finally put the anticipation to rest and delivered a 12 track debut album that places Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman b.k.a Maijd Jordan, firmly on the map. It’s a body of work that’s been well over a year in the making and patiently crafted to make their entrance into the arena noticeable. With a qualifying boost last summer from Drake who made the only guest feature on the album with ‘My Love’, the tracks now racked well over 21 million plays and paved the way for the road ahead.
The artist/production duo, have laced smooth sophistication all over their self-titled debut and their way of making music turns up a slick smooth project that keeps in line with the essence of the OVO movement while entirely staying a sound of their own.
Majid Jordan have established themselves in a class of their own, making a modern R&B album that doesn’t sound like any kind of R&B remake, go a little deeper and you’ll see why the legendary Quincy Jones strikes at the top of their list as the one they’d most like to collaborate with. Quincy’s reigning run as the producer behind the King of Pop transformed the sound of music in the 80’s with his work on Michael Jackson’s albums. Majid Jordan may just be getting warmed up but with Drakes run so far, being in-house producers within the OVO camp puts them behind a contender who’s got his eye firmly on the throne.
Unknowns until being discovered by Noah ’40’ Shebib in 2012 via SoundCloud, who passed their music onto Drake, Majid Jordan were subsequently signed up to OVO Sound and in 2014 debuted their EP, ‘A Place Like This’.
The Majid Jordan album is now available to stream on Spotify or download at iTunes.
