Tinie Tempah Indulges Us With ‘Junk Food’
Two years after dropping ‘Demonstration’, Tinie Tempah releases something for the grime heads…
It’s been a good two years since ‘Demonstration’ was released, with hits and features from the likes of 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Ty Dolla $ign, Labrinth, Ella Eyre and many others, so releasing a grime mixtape was kinda necessary. I was walking through Peckham when I tapped the play button to Tinie Tempah’s latest mixtape entitled ‘Junk Food’, without checking the track listing I took the gritty streets in along with the music on my half hour walk home.
It’s just different. ‘Been The Man’ is perfectly placed, instantly hooking you in with one of the best grime tracks we’ve been blessed with in a minute. Stormzy kills the hook. I’m bearing the most disgusting screw face in Peckham and JME has just made it worse, not to mention Ms Banks who really does her thing.
Big Narstie quickly comes in, shattering my eardrums with his trademark words, ‘BASE!’. This time switching the beat up with something a little more Atlanta inspired, and to my surprise, it actually works well. We then get funky with ‘We Don’t Play No Games’ which features Sneakbo, Tinie and Mostack. For a second I started to wonder where Sneakbo went, but then I remembered, this is a mixtape full of the UK’s nicest grime emcees and Sneakbo came through hard, once again.
There’s a couple of tracks that are album worthy, and ‘I Could Do This Every Night’ is most definitely one of them tracks. With LIV on the hook, we get mad flows from Tinie, Yungen and Bonkaz and the only problems I genuinely have, is why aren’t these tracks longer? And where’s Ghetts? Skepta? Scrufizzer? Maxsta? Emcees that would have BODIED the tape and sent it along with flowers.
If you’ve seen Link Up TV’s ’24 Hours With Giggs’, then you’d have seen Tinie and Giggs cooking up ‘Look At Me’, which is another track from ‘Junk Food’ that massively stands out. I’m now home and I’m blasting the track through my Pioneer RM-07 speakers. My mum isn’t happy with me, nor are my neighbours, nor are theirs, but some of the UK’s finest have delivered something spectacular and I’m too gassed to care, and so should you be.
