Watch Chronixx For The ‘Likes’

Born Jamar Rolando McNaughton on October 10, 1992 in Jamaica’s second largest city Spanish Town, Chronixx was musically nurtured from an early age by his father, dancehall artist Chronicle. Under the wing of his paternal music mentor, he grew up surrounded by the Likes of Burro Banton and Gregory Isaacs and by the time he was a teenager he was making tracks for dancehall royalty such as Konsheens. With a youthful conscious voice carrying the wisdom of generations of reggae singers before him, Chronixx quickly stood out. After playing at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records restaurant, he caught the eye of Major Lazer, who curated and released the Chronixx and Walshy Fire, Start A Fyah mixtape.

In 2014, his music propelled him into international stardom when his Dread & Terrible project, featuring hits like ‘Here Comes Trouble’ and ‘Captureland’ immediately topped the Billboard (U.S.) Reggae chart. Since his 2015 appearance at Governer’s Ball and later Glastonbury, Chronixx has only continued notching up the milestone moments. 2016 performances at both Coachella and Austin City Limits followed Glastonbury a year earlier and Chronixx sails unprecedented territory for a young, independent Jamaican artist with ease.

Now, Chronixx releases a brand new visual for ‘Likes’, self-produced and initially aired in March this year – it’s a single that has struck chords worldwide. Questioning the evolution of dancehall and the current state of the scene as well as the hype and hysteria of social media that is all too often more concerned with image than substance.

It’s been his readiness to question modern music and analyse its changes that has some quarters labelling Chronixx the face of ‘reggae revival’, but Chronixx hasn’t only been taking shots, he takes time on the track to praise those mainstream stars who have had major hits with dancehall melodies, both Rihanna’s ‘Work’ and Drake’s ‘Controlla’ topped charts for weeks on end.

The new video, directed by Joachim Maquet, was filmed in London whilst on the UK leg of the widely praised Chronology tour and it features scenes from his sold out Brixton Academy show, ‘Likes’ is just another chance for Chronixx to illustrate his versatility when it comes to music making, a natural follow up to both ‘From Behind Curtain’, ‘Odd Ras’ and ‘Sell My Gun’ Chronixx is an artist that will deftly shift and change, mix and blend when it comes to music.

In Spring 2017, was selected as the face for adidas global SS17 campaign for their Originals Spezial line, headlined his biggest 44-city North American tour date, sold out more venues across the U.K. and made his British national TV debut on Later with Jools Holland.

‘Likes’, alongside recent singles ‘Skankin’ Sweet’ and ‘Majesty’, are the tasters from Chronixx’s forthcoming debut album, ‘Chronology’. Following the critically-acclaimed EP, ‘Dread & Terrible’, and mixtape ‘Roots & Chalice’, ‘Chronology’ is one of the cultures most anticipated albums.
