Watch Kojey Radical’s Fearless ‘Open Hand’ Video
We got to preview what was about to be unleashed when Kojey premiered his video in person at the Tate Britain last week to a rapturous reception. Now it’s ready for the world.
The stark and powerful simplicity in the visual for ‘Open Hand’, shows Kojey in a slave state, broken and visibly worn out. Shot in a minimalistic and baron space, the focus is all on Kojey’s passionate performance as he expresses the lyrical power of the message. It’s a timely commentary on the state of social separation through class and race, and it’s expression takes place while we’re simultaneously living through a spate of recent controversies.
The directing duo, The Rest told us about the concept behind the video at the preview screening – “All these things it doesn’t mean anything, it basically shows that he’s a slave at the start of the video, he gets all this stuff but he’s still a slave because now he’s a slave to society.” Check it out above.
In the video Kojey is styled by Umps Machaka, dripping in jewellery from Lucky Little Blighters and clothes from rising menswear designer Chelsea Bravo. Kojey and Chelsea Bravo debuted a collection entitled “WABI” in the emerging designers showroom during London Collections: Men.
Kojey a creative visionary artist also puts in work with his creative collective, Push Crayons as the Creative Director, collaborating on numerous projects that feed his mult-faceted and interdisciplinary style.
