Why I Stopped Blogging

I got into blogging because I wanted a platform to push music and artists I liked 24/7.

I love what I do on 1xtra, but I’m only on air once a week, some things couldn’t/can’t wait until 10pm Friday night, and a lot of things were happening that I was in the middle of; the rise of G.O.O.D. Music, Dizzee Rascal’s global assault, and the birth of some of the future great ones.

On the blog we were covering new artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole before the deals, before the hype.  We were so early Kendrick asked if I could spell his twitter handle properly so he could get some of my twitter following , I interviewed Drake in Hyde Park, took J Cole to Carnaby St, London on a Saturday afternoon, no one stopped them or recognised who they were.

We were covering new artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole before the deals, before the hype.

The DjSemtex.com blog was dope, but it wasnt right. Roy was putting in a lot of work, as were other people, but the title wasn’t representative of their individuality. If we had a surge in traffic the site would crash, my then web guy blamed the web host, they would blame him, and he wasn’t equipped to deal with the necessary upgrade to a 2.0 version. You can’t tell me nothing about music, but I’m not that web guy at all. I was good with Dreamweaver, WordPress, etc. but that’s where it stopped. I was getting maaad frustrated, I’m a firm believer in doing something properly or don’t bother.

Apologies to Marina, Ash, Wrighty, Mr H, and many others who checked the site daily, but I needed something bigger than a blog or regular site, needed a bigger team, I needed to get things right, so I left the net for a minute. I had to destroy and rebuild.

It took time to rebuild….a lot of time, it took a lot of patience, and its been a real learning experience.  I co-founded a new platform with my sisterin ‘Mazzatron’, I’m working with a team of great people and it feels like we’ve got a great platform.

I was looking for a 2.0 and got a 10.0. This platform isn’t about me, its about everyone within the Hip-Hop nation, its about documenting the culture, and the UK experience. Hope you’re feeling the 10.0 wave.
