Will ‘Hotline Bling’ Video Crown Drake King?
It’s been over 3 months since Drake created a social media s**tstorm with the the beef of the year and musically he’s become an unstoppable force – so will 2015 be remembered as the year he got crowned king?
Hotline Bling, first debuted on Drake’s OVO Sound radio show on Beats 1 in July, as his rework of D.R.A.M.’s ‘Cha Cha’, although it actually samples the lesser known but equally infectious soul track by Timmy Thomas ‘Why Can’t We Live Together’. Since it’s ascent up the Billboard 100, the coveted no.1 spot has become the one and only goal for Drake, which would make this record surprisingly his first no.1 in the U.S charts.
Timing is everything when it comes to the month of October, and after all it’s their very own big moment as Drake commented on Instagram last week: “I spend my life trying to make waves for the city I am from. No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one. If I get my first number one during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool. I love you and thank you for these memories. I always love the moment right before it happens more than when it actually happens. So thank you…even if it doesn’t.”
The video is classic Little X or rather now known as Director X also a Canadian by way of Toronto – remember Kelis in Trick Me or Sean Paul ‘I’m Still In Love With You’; X loves himself all that colour boxing. Since most of Drakes recent exclusives have been revealed on Apple, no surprises here that the new video for ‘Hotline Bling’ is currently streaming on Apple Music exclusively.
