Wireless 2020 Set To Blow
It felt like just yesterday when Wireless Festival announced its jam-packed line up for its upcoming 2020 edition in July. The annual festival, which was first launched in 2005, is usually a highlight in the UK festival scene as its vast line-ups celebrate some of the most popular acts in music. Historically we’ve seen the likes of everyone from Kasabian and Justin Timberlake to Drake and Bruno Mars take the main stage. With their initial announcement of A$AP Rocky, Skepta and Meek Mill respectively headlining across the three-day weekend, this news has been buoyed by a further update that Wireless has sold out for the third consecutive year. Read on as we offer a preview on what the Wireless Festival weekend will entail in Finsbury Park.
Following his unfortunate situation in Stockholm, Sweden, de-facto A$AP Mob leader A$AP Rocky responded by going back to the Swedish capital to put on a free concert for his fans that supported him throughout the ordeal. Now a free man, he is wasting no time in getting back into the mix by headlining Wireless on Friday 3rd July. Other acts confirmed on the day include Rocky’s comrade A$AP Ferg, Lewisham’s own D-Block Europe, Brooklyn’s man-of-the-moment Pop Smoke, Young Thug, M Huncho, Playboi Carti (an interesting pick considering his recent ban from the UK and anticipation for ‘Whole Lotta Red’) and many more. Hopefully Rocky outdoes his experimental ‘TESTING’ with split opinion while challenging the crevices of his sound.
2019 was almost like a resurgence of the OG wave in London with storied acts such as Kano, Wretch 32 and Krept and Konan dropping impressive albums. Atop of this list is the mercurial Skepta, who seems to consolidate his OG status with every record he touches. Off the back of a special guest appearance at last year’s Wireless, following the release of his fifth LP ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’, Skepta will return on Saturday 4th July to shell it down once again and cement why he is so revered domestically and internationally. This mammoth second day will also feature a Quality Control segment that’s bound to come with a few surprises given the variety on the label (Migos, Lil Baby, Stefflon Don). Charlotte and Compton will be well represented by larger-than-life DaBaby and Grammy winning storyteller Roddy Ricch. MoStack, DigDat and Aitch will feature also, but we suspect that Burna Boy’s live set will emphasise the ‘Giant’ in his album title.
Last but not least, Sunday will be headlined by an East Coast artist that has been longing to come to London since before his probation was voided. Roc Nation’s Dream Chaser, Meek Mill, will headline in our capital city for the first time ever in what will surely be a memorable moment this year. In what is probably the most rap-focused Wireless Sunday in recent memory, acts such as Lil Tecca, Toronto’s NAV, City Girls, Mist and more will feature. AJ Tracey will also bring his Ally Pally energy to the main stage, following his sold out two-date residency at the historical North London venue.
