You Made A Mixtape? Good Job! Here’s ‘Chance The Dropout’
“I cannot attribute it to any single other person than Kanye”, replied Chance The Rapper, when asked by DJ Semtex who inspired him to be an MC in his recent exclusive interview. That quote serves up as the intro to the new blend mixtape ‘Chance The Dropout’, from DJ Critical Hype and DJ Clyde.
Talking in depth about his rise and rise, Chance the Rapper took time out during his recent UK tour for a sit down with DJ Semtex following a live studio appearance performing two tracks on BBC 1Xtra in the Live Lounge. Extending a special prayer to his ‘big brother’, Kanye West earlier on, Chance told Semtex about making no secret about wanting to meet the man himself. The newly Grammy nominated rapper from Chicago whose collaboration with Kanye West on ‘UltraLight Beam’ gathered up two out of his seven nomination total, was first introduced to Kanye by Jaden Smith.
“I think every rapper from Chicago at some point, thought about, wondered what, Kanye West thought of their music, if Kanye West had heard their music. I was the same way and very open about how I felt about wanting to meet Kanye West. That was like a theme of my career I think for the first two years, I didn’t meet him till the end of 2014 I think.”
Although there’s been no word of an actual full length collaborative project in the works between the two MC’s, DJ Critical Hype and DJ Clyde took it upon themselves to put in a little work and blend a project of their own. Working together over the course of a year, their blend mixtape ‘Chance The Dropout’ runs at a 23 tracks featuring Chance The Rapper vocals blended over Kanye West production. Kicking off with an excerpt from Semtex’s interview with Chance, this is quite a mashup and one that’s certainly got everyone talking – again!
With a custom cover designed by Ian Klarer, the album is available to stream now on DatPiff.
